Recent storms cause me to remember a tornado many summers ago in Illinois. In Virginia, our "season," or the time when we are at greater risk for experiencing tornadoes, is July through August according to the Weather Channel, with the hurricane season running from June through November. Although it may seem like a cold weather craft, felting is a great project for kids in the summertime.
Questions on felting have become very popular over the last several months at our library. People of all ages are now using this method to change the texture of a yarn or fur item to cause it to become matted or felt-like.
Thousands of kids and hundreds of teens have already signed up for this year’s summer reading clubs at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library. Now that schools are letting out, librarians are bracing for even more eager readers swarming into our branches.
Summer means the youth services librarians get to turn their attention form homework help to one of their very favorite jobs: matching readers with books. Getting kids started on a great series is a special thrill as kids fall head over heels into characters and stories that continue in book after book.

One of the main goals for the design of the England Run Library was to achieve a high level of sustainable design. We've done this through the use of recycled and non-toxic materials and energy-efficient lighting and design.
