Rylant shares stories of the season mostly set in the hills of West Virginia and western Virginia where she grew up. All these stories deal with sad, lonely, displaced people and how they find a spot of warmth and happiness on Christmas Eve. I’ve read “All the Stars in the Sky” to my son, when he would listen, or myself for years now and still cry each time. Rylant understands the spirit of the season.
